Bachelor of Veterinary Science [BVSc]


Bachelor of Veterinary Science or B.V.Sc. is an undergraduate program in veterinary. Students who have passed 10+2 in the field of Physics, Chemistry and Biology are eligible for this course. A person who is graduated in this course carry forwards the profession of a veterinarian.

Veterinary medicine is the branch of Science that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of disease, disorder and injury in non-human animals. The duration of this course is minimum of 3 years and maximum of 5 years. The average fee in India could range anywhere from 7,000 to 22,000 INR depending upon institutes. A person could find employment in both government and private sectors. The demand of this course is very high and of varied diversities.

A bachelor of Veterinary Science can get employment in various government animal husbandry departments, poultry farms, dairy farms, Wildlife sanctuaries and zoological parks, private and government veterinary hospitals and clinics where one can earn from 5,000 to 50,000 on an average per month.

What is B.V.Sc. all about?

The course deals with surgery and handling of animal live-stocks. Besides surgery, a person needs to take care of non-spreading of diseases in animals and need to give advices regarding medicine and vaccination of the same. They take up practice exclusively of either large animals such as cattle including horses, pigs, sheep; poultry or small animals mainly household pets including dogs, cats, birds or both. The approach in treatment vary according to different animals. 


All India Pre Veterinary Test (AIPVT)

The Veterinary Council of India conducts All India Pre-Veterinary Test - AIPVT for admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H Course for filling up 15% of All India Quota seats in the Veterinary Colleges in India (except from Jammu & Kashmir State). Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Rajasthan States are also participating in All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT)-2017 for admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H Course for filling up State Quota seats (other than 15% All India Quota) in their Veterinary Colleges.

Eligibility for AIPVT 2017:-

(i) The candidates should be Indian Nationals (except from the State of Jammu & Kashmir).
(ii) He/She has attained or will attain the age of Seventeen (17) years as on 31st December, 2017. Candidates attaining seventeen years on 1st of January, 2017 or later will not be eligible to appear at the AIPVT. The upper age limit for candidates seeking admission under 15% All India Quota Seats is 25 years as on 1st December, 2017.  Further  provided  that  this  upper  age  limit  shall  be  relaxed  by  a  period  of  5  (five)  years  for  the  candidates  of Scheduled Castes/ Scheduled Tribes/Other Backward Classes.
(iii) Candidate must have passed any of the following qualifying examinations :



The  Higher / Senior  Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after a period of 12 years of study, the last two years of study with Physics,
Chemistry, Biology and any other elective subject with English at a level not less than the core course for English as prescribed by the National Council for Educational Research and Training after the introduction of the 10+2+3 (years) educational structure as recommended by the National Committee on Education.
The Intermediate Examination in Science from a recognized University/Board with Physics, Chemistry and Biology (which shall include a practical test in these subjects) and English as a core course.

a) He/ She has passed the qualifying examination with the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English as core course or an examination equivalent to intermediate Science examination of an Indian University/ Board recognised by the Association of Indian Universities taking Physics, Chemistry and Biology including a practical test in each of these subjects and English.

b) A candidate under General Category for admission to the B.V.Sc. &  A.H. degree course must have passed in each of these subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and obtained 50% marks in aggregate of these subjects, at the qualifying examination. Admission of students to B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree course shall be made only on the basis of his/her merit in the competitive entrance examination. No other merit/ weightage shall be considered for admission to B.V.Sc. & A.H. degree course.

c) In respect of candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes/ the Scheduled Tribes or other special category of students as specified by the Government from time to time, marks required for admission shall be 10% less than that prescribed for general category. Where the seats reserved for the Scheduled Caste and the Scheduled Tribes students in any State cannot be filled for want of requisite number of candidates fulfilling the minimum requirement prescribed by that State, then such vacancies shall be filled up on All India basis with students belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes getting not less than the minimum prescribed pass percentage.



Syllabus of AIPVT

Class XI & XII (PCB )

AIPVT 2017 Pattern: - 


The  examination shall consist  of  one  paper  containing  180  objective  type  questions  (four  options with   single   correct   answer)   from   Physics,   Chemistry   and   Biology   (Botany   & Zoology).

The  distribution of questions  shall be as follows:

Subjects - No. of Questions:-

Physics - 45 Qs
Chemistry - 45 Qs
Biology (Botany and Zoology) - 90 Qs

Total 180 Qs

Each question carries  3 marks. For each correct response the candidate will get 3 marks. For each incorrect response, one mark will be deducted.

The Test shall be of 3 hours duration.

Language of Question Paper: Question Paper shall be in English and Hindi. In case of variation in English and Hindi version of Question Paper, English version shall be taken as final.
